Hangar Beach

For those who don't know, between Praia do Farol and Praia da Culatra, there's a little hidden refuge: Praia dos Hangares, often called "no man's land".

The name "Hangares" dates back to a time when the area was used to anchor Portuguese Navy seaplanes. The hangars, structures that housed the aircraft, gave rise to the beach's name. Today, you can still find traces of this past, such as old bunkers and barbed wire fences.

Anyone who thinks that to get to the Hangares you have to take a good half-hour walk from Farol or Culatra beach is mistaken. There's something new: you can now take the ferry from the Real Marina Hotel in Olhão.
